Timeline

Since its creation on the 6th of January, 2021, the world of 2s2t has changed significantly. This page was created to document the growth and maturation of 2s2t, both in-universe and as a project. The project's history is considered to comprise several "ages" defined by their level of user activity and what kinds of species were submitted.

Origin Age (Organisms 1 - 102)

Canon

This age is when the first life on 2s2t appeared. The first organism, poopcell, materialized in 2s2t's oceans and began evolving rapidly. Most of the major clades of unicellular organisms evolved during this time. Although there was hardly an ecosystem for them to thrive on, some of the first complex multicellular organisms evolved during this time as well, especially from the box cell and goldy lineages. By the end of this period, these organisms had already colonized the land, sea, and sky, most prominently around the continents of Cube and Oofle. This age is considered to have ended with the piss plague, a parasitic organism that incidentally caused a chain reaction leading to the next age in 2s2t's history...

Meta

"And Cube said, let there be poopcell: and there was poopcell. Then Cube saw the poopcell, and it was good."

This age marks the beginning of the 2s2t project. It started at the project's creation and lasted for about one and a half real-world days. While the number of users on the project's Discord during this time was small, many species were being submitted at a rapid pace. Submission descriptions during this time were somewhat short and had a characteristic parody-esque style.

Sophontening Age (Organisms 103 - 132)

Canon

The evolution of the piss plague accelerated the evolutionary arms race on Cube, eventually leading to the evolution of multiple sophont (human-like intelligence) species from ma'am stock. The first of these, boom sonic, went extinct within a very short time, but the rest survive to this day. Towering piss palms evolved during this time, some of which evolved to produce a stream of spores so powerful that they flew into space. The Ultimate M'ungus Machine was also built during this time by m'ungi, leading to the colonization of other planets by sophont species.

Meta

This is the age when, for lack of a better term, things went batshit insane. After the submission of the piss plague, the rate of submission and approval increased even more, with many poorly-written organisms being submitted within seconds of each other. This age is named after the large number of sophont species submitted during this time. It got to the point where Cube67 threatened to outright end the project if something colonized the sun. This age ended with an organism that did just that: The yellow barron. By popular demand, Cube67 did not terminate the project upon its submission, but submission rates did drastically decrease after the end of this age on the 7th of January, 2021. This age is when joint ownership of the project was given to Oofle.

First Hiatus Age (Organisms 133 - 151)

Canon

This age spans a relatively short period of 2s2t's canon history, with much of the activity in this time being centered on the Hot Planet. After a solar flare wiped out all life on the Hot Planet, while also killing off the piss planets and whatever was on the sun, a group of dooms would recolonize the planet. Becoming the semasand lineage, these dooms proliferated and gave rise to multiple species of flora and fauna. While not as much happened on 2s2tworld, a few important lineages can trace their ancestry to this particular time period. For example, the Yesdents and Benderfragens all had their earliest members evolve during this time period. The most important species to evolve on 2s2tworld during this time, however, was the Moogus.

Meta

Despite having the least submissions of any of the ages, this age spans the second longest period of real-world time in 2s2t's history. Burnout from the extreme chaos of the previous age and apathy for the project in general resulted in an extreme drought of new submissions for four months. To combat 2s2t's apparent death, a splinter project was created, although it didn't receive many submissions before itself becoming thoroughly dead and unused. This age lasted for about six months, ending on July 9, 2021.

Renaissance Age (Organisms 152 - ???)

Canon

Excluding the Origin Age, this period is the most important in the project's history. It's also the longest lasting period. Countless lineages evolved and diversified during this period, including the noserps, radfauna, nomflora (including nomfauna) and skroungers. The space ecosystem also became well-developed during this period, with clades such as the dooms and machinefauna evolving independently of 2s2tworld's ecosystems. The ecosystems of the previously vacant continent of Dingus became highly diverse, as did the small, newly-formed continent of Kamm. Due to how productive and dynamic this age was, it can be split into several sub-ages.

Meta

The submission of the skrounger, for whatever reason, reignited interest in the project. What followed was about 13 months of relatively consistent activity. Most submissions during this time had much higher quality than seen before in the project, with the descriptions during this time reaching lengths and levels of detail comparable to more serious speculative evolution projects. This period can be split into several sub-periods, based on what ecosystems and organisms were being focused on.

Quattrocento Sub-Age (Organisms 152 - 522)

(WIP: activity mainly focused on Dingus, with Western Hemisphere activity as well. Skroungers, Radfauna, Macrobruhs, Glassflora evolved. Space saw significant activity too.) (separate this info by canon and meta events if possible)

Kammite & Space Sub-Age (Organisms 523 - ???)

(WIP: activity mainly focused on Kamm. Clonguses evolved, Radfauna continued to diversify mainly on Dingus and Kamm. Nomsalps evolved and diversified early in this period too.) (separate this info by canon and meta events if possible)

Feral Sub-Age (Organisms ??? - ???)

(WIP: Several small islands were introduced, and activity shifted back to Oofle and Cube in addition to the islands. This period is named after the significant diversification in feralines during this time caused by the first Important Instance event, which entailed the breaking up of the overly vague and problematic feralines genus group into several species.
