Lobed Stomatoid

From 2speccers2tools wiki

Due to competition with other Radiocoons in the Void Belt, a group of Stomatoid Radiocoons decided to stick their lobes out of their holes, which surprisingly, worked, and this habit was retained in generation after generation, until they became green for some strange reason. Lobed Stomatoids, as their name suggests, often have lobes sticking out of each of their holes, and use this to gather sunlight, these lobes often varying in size according to the width of the hole they come out of. They still reproduce through these holes, retracting the tentacle before releasing spores through it. It is unknown why Radiocoon colors change a lot, especially when it happens to occur to its body pigments, affecting how they do photosynthesis, though it is believed that this may be related to the radiation they feed on. Their lobes usually sway around, gathering sunlight, and don't react much to touch, as strangely, they are numb, only feeling things at the base, so they will only retract if tugged on. If these closed holes are further irritated, it may fire a pointed lobe out of it to harm its aggressor. It's odd how so many Radiocoons appear to use pointy lobes as defense, especially considering how the ancestral Radiocoon and the Armored Radiocoon have no sign of such an adaptation, and is only seen in species with the inside of the cocoon exposed. It can only be assumed that this is a trait that they had ancestrally, though never actually used it until they had a reason to, as the two aforementioned species do not react much to invaders inside their cocoons.
