In the waters around Horrible Rectangle Island, the high amounts of background radiation allowed for an explosion of screengrass diversity, which inevitably meant higher chances of them evolving into new taxa. This came into effect when one species became particularly large for its kind, eventually becoming a species known as the Horrible Screengrass. The Horrible Screengrass is very similar to the related Screenpolyph native to Dingus in terms of appearance and lifestyle, with the species being a colonial organism who starts off as a single organism planting itself into the sediment. This first cell will grow several stiff flagella to help anchor themselves in place so they do not get carried away. From there, the single cell will asexually reproduce until it forms a proper colony. The Horrible Screengrass also have several branching structures in the colony as a larger surface area means more radiation can be absorbed for energy, though it differs from the Screenpoylph in that it has more branches and they are all close to the tip. The cell that is rooted in the ground will also take in nutrients from the sediment for energy, though it no longer consumers other microbes like many of its relatives.

A colony of Horrible Screengrass will breed sexually with others of it's species via emitting spores from the top-most cells on each branch(another advantage of having the structures). If a branch breaks off from the colony and lands somewhere else, it can also grow into a new Horrible Screengrass. While they do grow in others parts of the North Cold Ocean, they particularly thrive in the coastal waters around Horrible Rectangle Island, often growing around the colonial mats of radiomolds that are highly abundant in the area.
