Dual-Eyed Wigglers

The Glowing Wigglers had a lot of success as being small detritivores, so they began to spread into new areas and soon enough they began to diversify in a wide variety of species. Soon these new species began to diverge more and more, some colonizing new habitats while others experimented with new diets. This resulted in the evolution of the Dual-Eyed Wigglers, a highly successful genus group which has successfully spread to every major aquatic habitat on 2s2tworld. While the Dual-Eyed Wigglers are technically colonial organisms, all of the species in this genus group have their cells so highly specialized and tightly knit together that they effectively act like multicellular organisms.

The first cell still has the cilia to help manipulate food, with many species feeding on detritus like their ancestor but a few have taken to other kinds of diets. The two cells directly behind that first one both have a photoreceptor that helps them to navigate their surroundings, with species that live in the dark depths that make up The Fucking Trench having these two cells be absolutely enormous in size so they can obtain as much light as possible. Those two cells, along with almost all the other cells that make up the Dual-Eyed Wiggler, have large cilia that allow them to move around in the water column. The last cell of the Dual-Eyed Wigglers, meanwhile, has the large flagellum that also aids them with swimming, with some species even having two or more flagella. Though a few species still have all of the cells capable of consuming organic matter while most others rely only on the first cell to feed, all members of the genus group have the first cell completely specialized for feeding. Some species have even started to modify the cilia for unique purposes, with predatory species having the first pair of cilia thickened and acting like mandibles while the pair behind them detect vibrations to help them find prey.

While all members of this genus group consume organic matter for nutrients, they all also still get some of their energy through their fusiotrophic metabolism. This adaptation proves to benefit the species that live in abyssal habitats the most, as it allows them to get energy to sustain themselves when they are unable to find other sources of food. While their background radiation does deter most predatory microbes such as bruhs, it does not really deter large multicellular predators so with them they instead rely on fast reproductive rates.

The Dual-Eyed Wigglers that live within the abyss of The Fucking Trench find themselves in an environment where competition is rare and predators are scarce while their fusiotrophic metabolism gives them a competitive edge. Because of this, more species of Dual-Eyed Wigglers are found within the trench than anywhere else on the planet. Additionally, the relative lack of true competition has allowed certain species of Dual-Eyed Wigglers to become enormous for their kind. Some of these abyssal species reach a monstrous length of 12 centimeters, which are 3 times the size of the largest surface dwelling species of Dual-Eyed Wigglers(which is 4 centimeters).

Some species of Dual-Eyed Wigglers have taken up a new reproductive strategy, with the last two segments of their body detaching from the rest of the colony. The original wiggler regrows those segments while the detached bud will grow into its own unique colony.
